Hi,

I have a user on our AIX LAN whose password continues to ask him for a new one. He recently changed the password about a week ago. Prior to him changing it, eveything was fine. When he logs into the system it accepts the password. If he locks the screen with xlock and comes back, it will ask for a password. The password it will accept is one that was used previously before the new password, then it asks him to change it again. This happens repeatedly, like the system is just doesn't register his new password. I can't figure this out.
Thanks for your help.

I don't know if this will help, but I have heard of strange password behavior if the user used a character such as a $, #, etc., in the password. If the user has any of these characters in the password, ask him/her to at least temporarily change it to just regular characters and numbers and test it.

Bi,

The user used a new password without any special characters and the same problem exists. Do you have any other suggestions? I appreciate the help>

Hi Tracee

Login root account and check the /etc/security/passwd
file for that particular user stanza:

make sure that the attribute:
flags =
and save the file.
Next time it won't prompt for multiple password attempts

Hi Sushveer,

It works!
I think that did the trick. Under
flags = Admsvr
(whatever that means)
I deleted it and all looks good.

Thanks alot for your help!

Thanks to everyone that replied to my post!
