Is there a way to change the default VLAN on a Passport 8010? The IP Address for my 8010 is assigned to VLAN 1 (current default) but I would like for the IP address to be on VLAN 50. I tried deleting the IP address from VLAN 1 and adding to VLAN 50, but it tells me I can't do that.

I also tried assigning an address to the mgmt port and connecting it to another port in VLAN 50, but I can't seem to get to the mgmt port over that VLAN either.

Is this an 8100, 8300, or 8600?
I've never used one, but know that the 8100 series was layer 2 only... what exactly does the error message say?

The management port is intended to be "out of band", you won't be able to route user traffic across it.

It is the 8100 and yes it is layer 2 only. I am not trying to route anything, just trying to get the IP address to show up on VLAN 50 instead of VLAN 1.

The default VLAN on the 8000 series cannot be deleted and you cannot change the VLAN ID, it must be 1.

Since you are dealing with an 8100 layer 2 only switch, you cannot assign a VLAN an IP address. You can assign the management port an IP address. VLAN IP addresses are used for layer 3 functionality.
