Passing Variables to new pop win

I have some variables on a parent page that need to be passed to a child pop-up window. What is the best way to do this?

I have tried that approach but it gives me a "permission denied" error. No clue as to why.

Is the child window a different domain from the parent window? You can't script across domains.
