Passing values to a variable 1

I'm trying to get a variable to get the value from a textbox created in Dreamweaver that has already been defined and called username.

<% session("varuser") = Request.Form("username") %>

This is what I'm using to get the value from the textbox. I'm using vbscript. It doesn't seem to be getting the value from the texbox and then sending it to the next page because on the next page when I try to call up the variable nothing appears on the page.
<%= request("varuser") %>

This is what I'm using to display the variable's value.

Well you're placing the value of the textbox in a session variable: session("varuser")

But then on the next page you're doing the retrieve just slightly off:

<%= request("varuser") %>

Should be:

<%= session("varuser") %>

That works for passing a variable, but it is still not getting the value from the text box, I have the textbox set so that it has an initial value of "user" and this does not show up when I retrieve the variable on the next page.

that isn't working? Or is it failing on the "Logged-In Page.asp" ?

<% session("varuser") = "username" %> looks a little odd to me. Maybe this is possible and I have just never done it that way, but I'd expect it to look like your original post where you said
<% session("varuser") = Request.Form("username") %>

Ok. The

<% session("varuser") = Request.Form("username") %>

needs to go in the block of code that validates the user login procedure. Then on subsequent pages, you would just need to

<%= session("varuser")%>

A stab at why it wasn't working -- it appears that you were asking for form data (the username) before it was ever submitted so it wouldn't contain any text.
