Used Sybex book by Tod Lammle, hands-on experience and a lot of extra reading on the different subjects to prepare.

On to CCNP, I have ordered the CiscoPress CCNA preperation library. Is this sufficient to prepare and if so whre should I start ?

Good job on your CCNA! I am Curious how long did it take you to commit to studying and finally taking the test and passing? I would like to take the CCNA and I am beginning to study the Todd Lammle book. Good book but lots to know seems like about two or three months of constant reading.

I found the Sybex books by Todd Lammle didn't cover everything that Cisco wants you to know. I bought Cisco Press books as well and I read both. Todd does a fairly decent job explaining things, but the really technical aspects of the protocols, the stuff that Cisco actually tests on, are found in the Cisco Press books. The investment in the books was worth it for me. I'd recommend the same to someone else. As for the timeframe, it's possible with some intense reading and studying -- and I mean intense -- that you can read a Sybex book and a Cisco book, then take the test for that subject, all within one month's timeframe. I had very basic router experience and all my experience was with hubs. I managed to pass all four tests for CCNP within 4 months -- taking one more test -- DESIGN -- for the CCDP just one month later. That took some major dedication on my part. You think that was great? I know this one lady that took the foundation, the Support, and then the Design test in four weeks becoming CCNP and CCDP in one month. She did have a whole lot more experience than I did since she was a network engineer of a Cisco-based router network. My point is, even though you only have basic router experience, you can still pass these tests but you have to study REAL HARD. Good Luck!

Once I decided to get down to it and really study it took about 2-3 weeks.

I'd recommend searching for the topics covered in the exam on the internet and do some extra reading on them. It helps if you can find a few real life examples so you can picture the scenarios better.

Hope this helps...

what is the ccna exam fee?

I wrote my exam in South Africa, it cost R1350 at an exchange rate of 8.25 to the dollar it comes to $163.00
