It's been several years since I worked with crystal. I'm using crsytal professional 11. I need the formula in a sub-report to pass a value through to the main report and then in the main report the formula to place the value on the main report so I can do a calulation on it.

thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Look up shared variables, It is the only way to pass a value from a sub-report back to the main report.

The shared variable worked fine. I have the information on the main report. The issue is it is one line below where it should appear. I can't remember the correct placement of the formula or if code needs to be added to the formula on the main report so the information lines up on the correct line.

Appreciate any help you can offer.

A couple of rules about sub-reports and shared variables. To display the variable (in a formula, i.e., shared numbervar somevar) in the main report, thus you can drop the formula where you need to display the value. It has to be in a section after the sub-report. Also the sub-report cannot be in a suppressed section. If you do not want to see the sub-report, there is a trick to this (should be easily to find if you need to).

I was moving the wrong field up a section. thanks.
One more question. when I moved the sub-report up the information now appears on the correct line. I now have an extra blank line between the details. Since I can't suppress the sub-report or suppress the section the sub-report is in, I kind of remember we use to make the sub-report as small as possible and made the section the sub-report is in as narrow as possible, that is not working. I have a full blank line between each detail line. Is there a way to suppress the extra blank line? I reviewed the section expert for the section where the sub-report is on and nothing is popping at me to check off or uncheck.

Thanks in advance

If I remember correctly (there are other posts that address this). You can suppress everything but maybe the RF in the sub-report, drop a field into the RF, suppress it, then check the box for the sub-report (in the main report) to suppress when blank.
