I have a Partner system that is making a high pitch hissing kinda sound. I narrowed it down to the Processor Module. Sounds like the noise a power supply or a monitor sometimes makes before it goes out. Any ideas?? Can you replace just the power supply in the Processor Module or should you replace the entire card??

Thanks,

Travis

Hi Travis,
You are right, it's the power supply in the proc. card. They can do that for years before they fail. Either change the card or upgrade (& change the card that way). The power supply in the 206 card and the processor are different.
I don't see a great rush here (on average).

You can do either. Replacing your card will most likely make you feel safer. However you could replace or repair the p/s alone and go on about your business.

Hey,
Ive had processors make that sound for years.
Im not sure what makes the sound but I cant count the customers I have with that issue, they still are running fine.

The transformer is what makes that sound. If you take the card clamshell off and look at the power supply pcb and it looks like it's overheated (most do), you may want to do something about it. If the top of the card is a little melted, or dark brown, the card may fail soon. Just rule of thumb. It could run for years .... maybe. [hourglass]
