I have the old dial 777 busy signal after running perfectly for 3+ yrs. Reboot makes VM work for a couple hours. So I will replace the drive.

What are advantages/disadvantages of traditional hard drive vs. new flash drives? Flash drives would seem to be the obvious choice.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Only disadvantage of "flash" drive is up front cost...other than that it's the way to go.....No moving parts to go bad.........:)
Replacement is a snap and readily available..I would go that route for sure....

I would think that capacity and capability would be worth evaluating. Number of mailboxes and auto attendants and number of messages to name a few.

Goto support.avaya.com to review the specs.

I have a nice chart from the partner matrix but I am positive it will not display correctly here.

I think that the OP was looking for the advantages of using a replacement flash hard drive VS a traditional hard drive.

There is a company that sells both flash & and traditional replacement drives for various voicemails. The pricing for the Avaya drives is the same for both versions. [smile]

Gotcha.. I thought that perhaps I understood the question incorrectly

Dexman, you got it. I found both drives for the same price and was wondering if I was missing something obvious. I can't really see any reasons not to go with the flash.

Before long, all our computers will have them. Price is dropping rapidly.

I'd be curious to read how the flash drives hold up over the long haul. I have a couple of flash drives for the R4 Avaya Merlin Messaging ready to go when the original drive in the voicemail fails.

Hey ex...

I bought them from a member of one of the other tech help sites I'm active on. I paid a bit more for them than had I purchased them from the company that sells them online & eBay....but the price differential wasn't a big concern for me. [smile]

One issue with the solid-state drives is erasing data for security. There have been articles covering this issue elsewhere. I think DSL Reports.com had a link to one of them, if I recall.
