I have a Partner ACS with a Partner Messaging 4 port system. I have programmed permissions for ext. 13 to use outcalling and I have programmed a cell phone number into ext 13 for the outcall to use. The number I put in is 9*XXX-XXXX. I have also included this number on an allowed list. When I leave a new message at ext. 13 the VM port grabs a line and then disconnects. Can anyone help me? Thanks

Make sure that you have lines assigned to the 4th VM port

Make sure that you do not have the 4th VM port restricted through #302, #401, or #405

The best thing is to hang a butt set on monitor on the outbound line, leave a test message in the mailbox, and listen to what is being dialed out.

I have verified the restrictions. The lines are assigned to the fourth port. I will listen to the line...but it seems like I'm missing something small.....Thanks

Do you have Centrex on any lines- do you normally have to dial "9" first then the number? If so you need to put another 9 and maybe another pause before the 9 in the string you already have. 9*9*xxx-xxxx

No...they don't have centrex. Do you think the port may have to be assigned something specific in the voice mail admin?

Did you specify it as outcalling to a telephone, instead of to a pager? A pager outcall will just dial the digits and hang up.

What do you have the ALS (Automatic Line Selection) set for on that extension? Does it grab an internal line first and then an outside line? Or does it grab an outside line right away?

If it grabs on outside line right away, 9... will freak our the telco and cause an error.

When Partner extension ports are put into Hunt Group 7, the Auto Line Select is automagically set to Intercom-1-2-3-etc. The Intercom Dial Tone is changed to sound like an outside dial tone, so as not to confuse 3-party voice mails that can't detect normal Partner Intercom dial tone. Also, even though the lines look like they have immediate ring when you look at them in Centralized Programming, they really don't; calls are filtered through #206, #208, #506, and #507 before they get to the voice mail ports.

So anyway, the ALS is already set. If a voice mail port were to get outside dial tone first, instead of Intercom dial tone, it would never be able to set the message waiting lights.

I had a problem with one where the resolution was the outcalling schedual was default not to ring. Weird, but assigning the outcalling to the proper hours fixed the problem. It was that way default on a new VM (VS R-5). Morale: You have to check everything, no matter if you touched it or not.
