Working on Partner system with voice mail. When I power up the system, the led's on the mail card stay on. When I try to dial up the mail system (int.777) I get a busy signal. In hunt group 7, ports 50 and 51 are the only assigned ports. All cards are 206e R4.1 with the exceptions of the processor cards (main r4.1, expansion r3.1) It has been sitting for a while and on initial startup all settings were factory defaults. The system holds the date and time accurately.

All suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Mitch.

Hi mitchman,
Try to move the voicemail to the first cabinet and reprogram the ports to agree with the new position. I have had problems with vm cards with R3.1 expansion proccessors. I would suggest the furthest card on the right so the vm runs cooler. Sorry, but that will put a "hole" in your dial plan.

The vm card is immediately to the right of the expansion processor.

50 and 51 ARE the right extensions for the slot to the right of the expansion processor. What happens if you try to call each port by itself, instead of through 777? You might try using just one 206 in slot 1 of the main processor and the VS Mail in the 2nd slot, no other cards at all and no expansion processor. Try the process of elimination to find the problem.

Same problem no matter where the module is located. I'm guessing that means a hardware/software issue inside the module, but I could be wrong.

Thanks

Hi mitchman,
No, I mean to have the vm module in the same cabinet as the main processor. Try it there and let us know. I found that the voicemail would not initialize when located in the expansion cabinet unless I was using an R4.0 or higher. Therefore, calling each port gave a busy.

I tried the vm module(second slot) with one 206e module(first slot), and the main processor only. Also the expansion processor was disconnected during this test. Could the vm hard drive be bad since the entire system hasn't been used for a while. Whem I dialed the extension (17, 18) the system kept ringing. Does anybody know of where I might be able to send the vm module and have it serviced if needed?

Thanks

Hi mitchman,
Do you hear the drive spin up? Give the card a whack when you first turn it on if you didn't hear the drive wind up. If the vm starts then, you need a drive. There are some people here that have advertised drives for sale.
Good luck,
-Chris

Yes the drive does start up. I found a place that will replace the drive. Thanks to all who replied and offered suggestoins.

mitchman,

Where did you send this adapter to get the harddrive replaced?

Thanks, Bob

Mitch,

It does sound like you have a hard drive or board component failure in your VS module.

We don't recommend just buying a "hard drive" from someone as that doesn't always solve the component failure problem ... sometimes you have circuitry on the VS board that has failed due to power surge etc.

Hope you get it working!
