I am new so I apologize in advance. I have two Partner Mail Release 1.8 systems, both non-functioning and was wondering if I could salvage the boards (2 x Rev 8.3, 2 x Rev 8.4) to be used with anything else. Company downsized dramatically and there are only 4 people in the office but we still need voicemail as I can't answer the phone when in the bathroom. I found some Do-It-Yourself programs that require boards and wanted to know if I could reuse the boards in the Partner Mail. Money is Tight, Any Suggestions?

If money is an issue then I would just get a cheap answering machine. Plug it into an extention port on the partner and set that ext to ring. Set your answering machine to however many rings you want it to ring before answer and you are set.

The boards you are talking about need the circuit board and hard drive inside the partner mail to work.

Thanks for the response. I was actually looking online for a cheap answering machine and ran accross some people on ebay selling the software to make a voicemail system. The only thing they said I needed was a board and didn't know if these partner mail boards would work. I have lots of old computer parts so figured I would give it a try but if these boards won't work, in the garbage they go. Thanks for your help.

Amessana,

I think the boards they need for there voice mail system is a board that fits in a PC. I am supporting a system which origonally had such a voice mail system...it crashed, and crashed again. I installed a Partner Mail system, and haven't had any problems since.

Do you have more problems with PC's or with a Partner phone system crashing? I know the Partner's have a few issues, but I sure haven't had problems with the boards or voicemail system, and it's not climate controlled where the system is installed, and this is eastern Washington...pretty hot summers.

Fix the Partner mail system, if you want to avoid problems. I installed another Partner system at a small branch office one year ago, and I think a different branch office has grown sufficently so that by summer I will have installed another Partner.

Been there, done that,

Jeff

Is there anyone that knows much about the partner mail 1.8? I have it hooked up to my ACS release 5 in my home and I cannot get the voice mail message light to illuminate when there are messages. Any fix for this besides upgrading?

Check the class of service for the mailboxes, make sure that they are 1 through 4.

There is a known issue with Partner Mail (external type), interfaced with ACS processor or 308 expansion module station ports. They are happier on 206 modules instead. A know issue is phantom calls to Ext. 10 by the voice mail ports. Can be fixed remotely by Avaya installing a patch in the voice mail.

Will this fix my problem with extension 10's message light if I still use the ACS and put it in a carrier with the 206e, plugging the partner mail 1.8 into extensions 13 and 14 on the 206? Or will this just light the extensions with mailboxes on the 206e card?

These mail systems are pretty old and it is hard to find support for them anymore.

Thank you for your help!

If it is not lighting the MW light now, I don't think using it in a carrier with a 206 will change anything. If you already have the hardware, go ahead and try it.

So the bottom line is that Ext. 10's MW light is not coming on for messages in mailbox 10?

Does the MW light work on its own? Feature-09-10 will turn it on manually, Feature-10-10 will turn it back off.

If I remember right (not positive), a 206E has to be R3.1 or higher to light the message light on ACS.

I think that is in regard to MW lights on S/L phones - the light on multiline sets is always available.

We had an Inn upgrading from an OLD Partner II to an ACS, adding Messaging for the guests, and changing out the phones. Had to eat a couple of 206's that were too old to light up the lights on the S/L room phones.

Hey Tommy, knew there was something about the old 206E's and MWL's. Just thought I'd throw that in there...
