hello, i have a partner mail 3.0 , 6 port , stand alone, i defaulted it back to factory using pc, ( thanks tek-tips for that one) and when i hook it up to a acs 5.0 system and try and program it, it calls ext 10 every now and then. then all the lights go out on the mail and come back up. it happens all the time, but if i leave it alone, it stops and doesnt do it again... but when i access vm, it starts doing it. any help would be wonderful. i have sold this to a customer and need to send it shortly once i find the problem. thank you all for your help in advance..

Is it hooked up to ports programmed into calling group 7 also the codes for MSG Light on/off are #09 and #10 Mabye the system is not hearing the # correctly or the VM is not accurately making a # sound. I would hook up a digit grabber to the last port on the Mail to see what it is sending.

About it shutting down and coming back up You will probably get a post from drew on this, he IS the guru. I have bought, and had repaired, a few units by him and he is the one to listen to.

Are you connecting via station ports on a 308 card vs. a 206 card? There is a issue of Partner Mail 3.0 not disconnecting when connected to a 308 card. It is totally random, and even when the caller forces disconnect by dialing **9, sometimes the port will not release. It stays off hook expecting another incoming call, but it isn't getting any mode codes. When it times out, it says "Transferring to Operator", flashes, dial 0, and disconnects. Extension 10 gets one ring on Intercom, and the LCD will say "VMS". Avaya has a patch that they can upload via the Remote Maintaince Device (modem) but they charge about $150 to do it. Easiest solution is to change a 308 for a 206 and connect through that.

guys thanks for all the tips, but i have found the problem, it was a bad port on the 206 card, when you called the port, it gave a busy signal, put a phone in the port on the 206 and, bam, it did not get intercom dial tone.... that was messing with the vm, replaced the 206 card.. and all is well.....works like a charm with out the call back, but i will check just be sure all the info you responded to , and thank you everyone for your quick response.

Glad you found the problem. Extension ports that are assigned to Hunt Group 7 will automtically have their Auto Line Select changed to Intercom First, but the Intercom Dial Tone will be changed to "Machine", that is the Intercom Dial Tone sounds like Outside Dial Tone. You will NOT find the change in system programming where you assign Regular or Machine dial tone to an extension.

Also, with the external Partner Mail, do NOT assign a fuest mailbox to the voice mail port extension numbers. When the message light is turned on for a message, the voice cards will interpet it as an incoming call, and do the same type of false transfer to extension 10. It is OK to use the VM ports for guest mailboxes on VS mail and Partner Messaging.

Great post and info - Tommy. Some VM problems on the Standalones are caused by Guest-Ghost mailboxes not configured properly.

The Partner/Merlin Mail R3.0 has had software problems that cause the conflicts Kevin mentioned here. Merlin is now up to R3.06 and Partner is R3.02.5 I believe.

The main problems with the Standalones are the power supplies develop internal component problems/intermittent failures with time and they don't consistently provide 5V to the hard drive which is very sensitive to 5V fluctuations. This also can happen to the main motherboard which causes BIOS bootup failures/lockups. These mails also don't handle power surges well - but better than Partner modules and processors - and sometimes a surge coming through a line cord to the Brooktrout voice card can cause VM card or motherboard damage also. Proper CO & PS surge protection is always an important step to keeping your equipment safe - preaching to most of the choir ... but you would be surprised!

In our VM repairs on all the standalone mails, we always relaod the latest release of that mail's software on the new drive which provides the latest SW upgrades and bug fixes. Kinda like keeping your WINDOWS OS updated when you have a crash!
