I have a 5 bay cabinet with two of the 206E R.4.1 Mods and a Partner II processor R.4.1. I am currently using it in a 2x10 configuration. I will be adding one additional incoming line so I will end up with a 3x10 system. I want to upgrade the system to include Auto Attendent, Voice Mail, and Caller ID. I have been told that I need a #6054-P50 ACS R.5 Control Unit and a #6108-548 VM PCMCIA card R3.0 (Large). I am a novice when it comes to Tellcomm but do have a fair amount of common sense and can read instructions. Q1-Is this the best upgrade to accompolish my goal? Q2-Is this upgrade something that I can do with the manuals or is it likely that I will need to bring someone in? Q3-Is it possible to copy or save any of the programming from the Partner II processor to transfer over to the ACS R.5? (I am assuming that the Partner II processor must come out)

Hi Doug317!,
You are replacing the old processor, the ACS has three co ports with caller ID. There is no way to save the program from the Partner II. You will have to step through the program and read out the values, writing them down. Now, the ACS has many new features and voicemail / attendand flexiblity has increased dramatically. You may want to have a tech. come in to program this for you so get the most benefit. I'm sure that you could maintain the system after that.
You are also getting 8 more station ports. you need a new harness for the card if you are wired out that way (I do). The VM (large) only has one attendant announcement. Most of my customers outgrow that within a year. Do you need a day and night announcement? Would outcalling be a useful feature (when you get a message)? Look at the other voicemail units and decide what features you need before buying the voicemail. The PVM card works well if that's all you need.

What do you think I would expect to pay if I have to bring in a tech to program my new ACS R.5 unit (which will be a 3x10 configuration)? I know that is a tuff question but I just need an idea of what to expect. Are we talking $50 or $500??

Hi Doug
I would ask for a tech in your area to respond to that. He may have to look at your installation to see if any additional work needs to be done. If you can get him on a per hour basis it should be less than flat rate. Our rate in the Toronto area (Canada) is $100.00 first hour and $85.00 each additional hour. Don't forget that a good tech will be loads cheaper than a "hacker" for years to come. I've seen $40.00/Hr. techs that never get it right and charge at least twice the time on install.
Doug, where are you?

HI Chris... I appreciate your response. I am in Selma, AL. USA

Depending on cost you can keep your Partner II system and change out the 206E's for 206EC's. That will allow you caller ID capability. Then you can get a refurbished Partner mail VS R. 3.0 that's 2 ports by 10 mailbaxes. Or if you need more ports go with a R. 4.0 and you can up it to a 4X40 configuration. There are many options out there. Just need to compare the price difference of an ACS 5.0 and PVM r3 to a couple 206EC's and a PArtner mail VS. If you have more question you can e-mail me; jslay@americaii.com

The partner II is still a good processor, especially if you have a maintenance contract on it. If you don't HAVE to have voice mail you can use the processor's (ASA)auto system answer and (DXD) direct extension dialing to accomplish much of what an auto-attendent would do for you. If you do need voicemail then I would recommend atleast an R4 VS mail because that will give you the ability for outcalling and transfering messages from mailbox to mailbox.
If money is no issue than buy the new processor and vs mail that have the flash backup. Your existing wire will still be good as long as the jumpers are long enough.

Hi Doug317,
Did you get enough information there? I will say that sitting down with a tech to design your application is far better for you in the long run. We have preprogrammed systems for customers before. A two way discussion gives you a better solution.
The new features on the ACS processors are worth it as opposed to the PII. The backup / restore card has saved more than one customer that I deal with. User replaceable batteries are wonderful! And, the system can be programed & diagnosed remotely.
The Processor and PVM large are worth about as much as a 2 port VS.
I hope that helps you out.

Sounds like you should have a tech consult with you. You can also go to Avaya's website or look in the yellow pages for an Avaya Business Partner in your area. Stay away from the "Handymen" and look for the experience in the Person that will actually be helping you.

Good Luck
