Hello,

New to the board and was hoping I could get some help.

I am installing a convergent solution for a company that has a Partner II R4.1 system already in place. The convergent solution will be coming in on a T-1 and terminating for voice service on a digital to analog adapter. The product information for the convergent solution says it is compatible with any phone system that has a Foreign Exchange Station (FXS) interface. My question then is does the Partner II R4.1 phone system have a Foreign Exchange Station (FXS) interface.

Any help would be appreciated.

No, the Partner System(S) does not have an FSX Interface, generally, the T1 or Fractional T1 Service Provider provides this interface which converts the T1 pipe or fractional part of the pipe into analog trunks. These analog trunks (in your case they need to be Loop Start) are then terminated on an RJ21X. From there it is the customers responibility to cross-connect from the RJ21X to the Partner Systems trunk ports.

Franke,

Thank You for your response. I really appreciate any help figuring this out.

I called Avaya today and an engineer from the vendor told me that the phone system would have no problem interconnecting to the convergent solution.

Maybe I did not give you enough information. Here is the question that was original directed to the service providers engineering department, in regards to compatibility with different phone systems.

If a customer chooses to utilize their existing phone system, does the ethernet/adapter take care of the interface to the existing phone sets, and how does that interface work for existing systems that are already rich in features?

We support a key-set as long as it has a Foreign Exchange Station (FXS) interface. This is the interface used on a key-set. On the 12 line or less product, we install an RJ11. On the 13 - 47 port product, we install an RJ21.

For customers requiring Foreign Exchange Office (FXO), T-1 or Primary Rate Interface (PRI), they may benefit more from a trunk based offering.

What do you think? Is our partner system compatible?

This is not something I can afford to try out. If it works I am a hero, if it doesn’t -------

It sounds as if the provider will be breaking out the analog trunks to an RJ11 jack (single line, like the jack in your home)for 12 lines or less, meaning you will have 12 jacks mounted on or near your equipment. Since both jack and Partner are modular plugged, you would just need a regular mounting cord to go from the RJ11 to the Partner.

If you are getting 12 lines or more, it sounds as if they will terminate the analog trunks on an RJ21X, which is a 25-pair connecting block, these blocks are typically not modular and would require that you terminate one end of a patch cord on the block and have a modular connector on the other end to plug into the Partner.

Or to put it more simply, yes- it should work :)
