here's the situation, got a partner II system, 1 processor R3.0 cards, 2 206E R3.0 cards, working wonderfully for years. All of a sudden, processor power light doesn't go green, I figured processor has blown for some reason, replace it with a 4.0 processor. It works for a while, till one of the 206e cards power light doesn't go green. I replace the 206e, and it blows. It's not the surge protector since there's a different partner II system on the same surge protector that has no problems.
Question: Why are these cards blowing all the time, since it doesn't appear surge protector is the problem.
thx
Charlie

Quite often when a system is in place for a long period then work is performed on it, the jarring of hot power supplies when modules are moved can make them go bad. Heat was a huge issue in the early 206 power supplies, and cascading failures is a known problem in very old, untouched systems. The carrier will have no effect on blowing power supplies.

I have never seen a bad carrier like 392 says the power supplys do go bad and if they are the same age cascading failures wouldnt be unusual

as a aside I would recommend leaving the cover off the carrier for better heat distrabution I was in on a new csutomer yesterday who has a older partner I removed the cover from the carrier and explained to them why I recommend it

Yup, old age and heat. Time for a new system. BTW, I have run into bad 5 slot carriers. Joints on the power connectors mostly.
If you do buy a new system, replace the old 5 slot carrier with a new one. It's improved for better ventillation.

I agree with 392. Those old systems will work fine for years but with some when you go to upgrade or just move modules around everything will go bad.

I agree with the others, I've seen them run along just fine for years and when you move orservice them they go down, It's always scary to move or add to an older Partner that has been in service a long time.

A trusted source for years.
