Partner Avaya Problem - Handset Clicking / Lights Flash

Hi everyone, I'm new here. Not a phone guy, but we have a client who is having problems with their system and are trying to help them.

They moved their only (I think) display phone to extension 16, and have regular 18's on 10 and 11.

At a few extensions, including 10, when you pick up the phone to dial it just clicks a couple of times, then all the lights flash on the front of the phone, then the phone just goes dead. We have checked the phone lines, I've rebooted the phone system, plugged 2 different phones into ext 10 directly on the phone system(one display one regular), rebooted the phone and so on all with the same result.

Has anyone seen this? Maybe some simple programming that was lost or got corrupted in a power outage? I've googled and skimmed the manual, but not finding much.

We just checked for a backup, but the system is set to auto backup on the 1st so whatever is backed up is what we currently have.

Thanks for any insight anyone can add.

If a known working set is connected directly to any suspect extension using a known good cable, and the problem remains, I suspect that the ports are bad.

As a final test, if the processor is installed in a carrier (as opposed to being mounted directly to the wall), power down the system, unseat the processor, power it up again and test the suspect extensions.

Plug the phone directly into the port on the module, bypassing the station wiring.

Sometimes, using a 6-position plug in the 8-position port does not align properly, and one side of the data pair gets shorted to one side of the audio pair, which will cause the clicking. The jack at the station may be good, the cabling may be good, but the plug going into the module may be cockeyed.
