partner acs with new series 18d phones

I just installed an R7 ACS with all new 18D phones in my customers home. They had a VODAVI STS before. They love to use the speakerphones and told me that people on the other end are always complaining that my customer keeps cutting out. Now they have exactly the same problem on the PACS.

I tried using the speakphone in several different rooms, made sure it was very quiet and placed the phone on pads so there would be no bounce off the table top.

Is it possible that there may be some type of EMF or other radiation that would cause the mic to keep clipping?

While I can't speak for the Vodavi, Partner telephone sets are not true duplex. Polycom makes some fine speaker phones that will yield excellent results. And the best part is that the analog models can connect either to the AUX port on the Partner telephones or their own extension on the Partner system.

Thanks for the idea, but before I add any equipment to the customers desks I think there is a need to work on this further. If I use the speakerphones from phone to phone or to leave a message in voicemail the tramsmitter seems to be ok. it's only a problem when I'm on a c.o. line.

When you're leaving a message in voicemail via the speakerphone, there's no sound coming at you from the other direction to cause the speakerphone to change directions. Try LISTENING to voicemail through the speakerphone with the mic enabled. If you are louder that the message being played back, it WILL clip. These were never touted as full duplex speakerphones.

Sounds like they had the same results with the Vodavis as well.

Test a full duplex Polycom, and note the difference.

Thank, but I don't need full duplex. i have a Partner ACS i nmy office and the speaker phones work fine. I understand that if I am listening to someone talking to me on the speakerphone, if I make noise it will clip them. In this case, I can be talking to you in a totally quiet room, you're totally quiet listening to me speak. my words will get clipped every so often like old ow quality voice activated military microphones.

Any other suggestions?

Not only if you make a noise it will clip" it will also clip at times if the other persons voice is loud enough, thats why TTT suggested a full duplex type speakerphone.

Half-duplex speakerphones have always operated this way-- the loudest signal gets thru first! Acoustics, distance from the phone, and the voice levels have a tremendous effect on how the speakerphone will work. You need to explain these things to the user and tell them they need to wait for the other person to stop speaking before they speak. Almost like push-to-talk... Sometimes lowering the volume control will help. That suggestion was in the old Bell System practice on the 4A Speakerphone and usually worked.

Another thing to check, make sure there is nothing blocking the transmitter(microphone), that can cause all kinds of bad transmission. I have seen people's desks with papers, etc. blocking the transmitter, and they were complaining about how bad it worked!
