I have a 5x9 R7 processor with a 308EC and an 012E card with about 23 Partner 34D telephones.

As of this morning, about half the phones have some garbage / garbled text on the displays.

These phones are not 1 year old, installed in January.

I know there were issues with some 18D displays going bad a few years ago.

We reset the system and unplugged / plugged back telephones with no effect.

Could we all of a sudden have bad displays?

While it is possible that some 34D displays could have gone bad. If you switch a suspect set with a known good one, does the problem follow the telephone or stay with the port?

I'd be concerned with using a very large number of 34D sets. It can cause various problems.

i will try swapping tels, I will be there tomorrow. I was there yesterday to do a visit, didn't touch a thing and then wham-o! this morning, problems!

I have 13 tels with the issue across 3 different cards.

this customer went from a Partner II to the 5x9. This 5x9 is a good release, too. On the old partner II all of the phones were MLS 34D with a couple Partner 34D with no issues for over 10 years.

I think that the Partner power supplies have problems supporting large numbers of 34D sets. LEDs & lights tend to shine dim and speaker phone quality suffers.

Since each Partner module has its own power supply, how many is too many P34D sets? 2, 4, 6, 8?

Here is a quote out of the Quick Reference Guide:

The power supply used in the 012E module is adequate to power the 12 ETR ports under normal conditions. However, if too many large Partner telephones (such as the Partner-34D) are off-hook with speakerphone volume set to high levels, the power supply could be overloaded. Power management of the 012E module eliminates the power supply overload.

When a power threshold is exceeded, all telephones connected to the 012E module will appear as follows:
LED display dims to a minimal level
Speakerphone volume is decreased.

well, it appears these displays have been going bad over the last few months, since I showed my face yesterday, then, presto, all of sudden the remember to tell me.

I think it is a batch of bad displays.

I remember reading about the failing displays on a batch of 18Ds, but I don't remember anyone mentioning failing displays on 34Ds. I guess the maufacturer/supplier of the displays had some quality control issues.
