i'm not at the office but it's a system with R3's, 206's and stuff like that.. i was wondering if Centrex is a requirement, i see it on the phone bill but can i cancel it?

that was a stupid post.

i'm new to the office and i need to add a couple more phones so i really need to know if we could do without Centrex service.. we dont ever transfer to cell phones.. we dont even use callerid, we just transfer inside the office.. need to know so i could drop the Centrex service.

the partner will work just fine without Centrex , if you don't need the added features and if it will save you money , cancel it

sounds like the partner will do more than you need

skip.. thanks for the prompt response.. i really appreciate it.

how do i verify that i'm not using it's features? or the system does not rely on them? i dont want to break the system!

three way calling is the only valid Centrex feature that I can think of that the partner doesn't do well

hold , internal transfer etc etc are all partner features

Ive worked on dozens of partners , only a few had Centrex , many are doing fairly sophisticated call handling and processing

look through the partner manual (link in FAQS top of page for free download) see if there is a task you need that isn't covered with built in features

ok man thanks!! i'll post back here in a few days when i'm at the office..

how do i connect the 3 18d phones i got? with ethernet? just 4 wires in each to the phone? i dont seem to understand the wiring.. the dood i bought it off ebay didn't send valid chords.

you can use a Ethernet patch cord , all you really need though is a standard 4 conductor telephone line cord

it wires with a standard two pair telephone jack

cat 3 is just fine no advantage at all in using anything higher , (unless you happen to have it around)

cool... as far as adding extra lines to the system... all i do is plug them in at the top where there are 2 lines? could those be a single pair from the 66 block?

example
sorry i dont have a big picture, i should take one from the office.. but like on a 206 it has something like 2 lines at the top and the rest are extensions? if that 206 is connected with another system.. i forgot what but it's connected to something like a 206 but it has on hold music and a lot more ports..

if i get extra lines from SBC, i just plug it in on the 2 available lines there.. and any phones i connect to the bottom ones are automatically extensions?

206 2 co lines 8 ext

200 2 co lines only
400 4 co lines only

above are all discontinued but still around

308 3 co lines 8 extension`

I pair from the block to the co port

thanks for the post.. i know they may be old but.. if they're all connected to the same blade type device.. then if i connect from the block to the co line.. it should distribute to the other modules also right?

and all you have to do is plug in the 18d phones into the extensions and those should be distributed through too right?

thanks!

ok thanks for everything.. the building is 12 floors.. i set it up on the main wiring closet to our floor.. from our floor, ran a wire to next to the avaya system.. it's just a pair into a phone jack.. i get dial tone, can get incoming and outgoing calls on it.. but when i plug into the avaya systems:

206E and a 509, the 5th port on the 509 was available, plugged one in there and plugged two into the above ports of the 206E, i'm calling but all i hear is the ringing tone from my cell phone, the actual office phones do not ring.. what could be wrong here and do i need to set something up in the phone system?

Well, you need to assign the new lines to the extensions, and set the ringing, assignments to auto attendant, etc.

could you help me? actually i'm flyin to vegas in a few hours and i left the office.. but i'd appreciate if you could help me TouchToneTommy.. thanks man!

Use Line Assignment to add the lines to the phones:

#301-(Extension Number)-(Line Number)-1

It is assigned to the next available button, with Immediate Ring. If you want No Ring, or Delayed Ring, go to Centralized Telephone Programming to change that on a per-extension, per-line basis.

If the lines need to be answered by the Auto Attendant, it's #206-7-(Line Number)-1, with the Number of Rings before answer determined in #506-(1=Day/2=Night)-(Line Number)-(Number of Rings from 0 to 6)

thank you.. these phones only have 4 lines i think... there are 18d's and some smaller ones.. it should still work right? they dont care about selecting those lines specifically, i think they just want more phones that ring... and availability

ahh i understand what you're saying.. the additional phones, i could just set those numbers up on those.. how do i know the line number if it's not attached to the processor? it's 1 new line on the processor and 2 on the 206E

at this point getting a knowledgeable tech involved to set it up for you for a few hours would be money well spent in my opinion

Centrex Lines are less expensive and do no harm to your system.

We all need a little help once in awhile. Tony the Phoneman..

i'm about to try this.. but i dont seem to understand.

extension number is the extension on the phone system, line number is the line it's plugged into in the phone system?

Extension Number is the 2-digit number that you dial on Intercom to reach that particular phone. If you go to a phone (with a display) and press Feature 00, the display will say "Program Extension XX", the XX is the extension number of the phone.

Line Number is the 2-digit number of the line port that the telephone line from the outside world is plugged into. The 1st line jack on the ACS is 01, the 2nd one is 02, etc. The last line jack on the ACS R7 is 05, then you move to the card in the left-most slot, and that starts with 06

You do your programming from Ext. 10 or 11 only.

So, your phone is Ext. 23 (example), it already has lines 1 through 4, and you want to add line 5 and 6.

At Ext. 10 or 11, you press Feature 00, Left Intercom twice. #310-23-05-1 (add Line 5 to Ext. 23), then #310-23-06-1 (add line 6 to Ext. 23). Line 5 comes up on the button above Line 1, and Line 6 comes up on the button above Line 2 (assuming that Ext. 23 is an 18 button telephone).
