Is there any way to get an extended partition with a logical drive back as a part of the c: drive without losing anything on c? I had two 9 gig partitions on a drive. (c and d) D was an extended partition with a logical drive...I deleted the logical drive and the extended partition. Now it is unallocated space. I would like to make this unallocated space a part of Drive c once again so I will only have one partition instead of two. Any suggestions on how to do this? I can't figure it out. Thanks for any help!

Jeremy

You'll need a partition manager, you can't do it through fdisk.
Ranish is free, and works (available on my website) or you could use Partition magic. Cheers,

Partition magic as a commercial program. There are shareware programs also but I don't have their names. You might do a google search or wait for sombody else to add the info to this thread.
Any time you start diddling the partitions you are at risk of losing everything. Back up your critical stuff. Ed Fair

much agreed with edfair. Partition Magic 6 is the best and safest program to use. the option in PM 6 is called "merge partitions". but before you do this you must understand that it isn't 100% guaranteed to succeed. i know a person that used a partition manager and ended up losing 5GB of mp3's. he wasn't merging though.

ive used PM 6 for merging partitions and havn't yet lost data.(knock on wood.)

What is the procedure to install Windows 2000 professional CLEAN on a new hard drive WITHOUT booting from the CD?

Well Donald Lee... You would probably get more responses if you start a new thread but, if you see this...The way I have done this in the past is to boot the machine with a Win98 boot disk. Run fdisk to delete the partitions on the drive and then format the drive. After finishing the format insert the first of four Win2k setup disks and reboot the machine. This will load all of the setup files without having to boot from the cd. After all files are loaded it will then ask for you to insert the cd and it will finish the install. Another way of doing this if you do not have the four setup disks is to boot the computer and go into setup. Tell the machine to boot from the cdrom first instead of the floppy. Save the changes, pop in the Win2k cd and reboot the machine.

Hope this helps,
Jeremy
