hello,

i m abhay. i have installed win98 on the single primary partition. now i want to install win2k server on another primary partition. fdisk(dos) isn't allowing to create another primary partition. my HD is 40 gb. i don't want to delete the existing partition as it has imp. data. i have created primary partition of 10gb. i don't want to install win2k on Extended dos partition. can u give me the solution so that i can install win2k on another primary partition.(using fdisk)

Why do you need both set up as a primary partition.

To have the 2 operating systems co-existing, Install Windows 2000 Server first on one partition, then install Windows 98 on another partition, at bootup you should be given an option to select the operating system you require.

is there a way that you can backup your data? i mean that one you have in the partition?
I really recommend you to do it if your playing back and forth with your partiotins and that data is really important to you
One advantage of installing win2k before installing win98 or other MIcrosoft Os is that it automatically creates the boot menu so you can choose wich OS to use at boot up. BUt well in order to do it you must be able to install win2k without loosing your data..i dont know if you have any old hard drive laying around, or a Cd burner or ghost software.
CAn you plase provide us with your hard drive configuration (PArtitions), you first said you have a single partition, and then after that you said you create a 10Gb part...so what do you finally have? A+, MCP, CCNA

Hi abhaywit! As i think you have one 10G partition on 40G HDD. In this case you may simply boot from W2k server instal CD, when Install ask you about destination partition, you must select "create new partition" option (Install will create primary partition), then format it, select new partition as destination place and continue installation.

Install windows 98 first, Windows 2000 second, for a dual boot configuration.

Make sure that you use fat 32 for your drives so both systems can read them.
