Hi,

I have a list that I need to extract data from in Excel. I have names in the following format:

John & Mary Smith
Bill Jones & Jenny Davis
Bob Edwards

I need to get the salutations from this list so that I have a separate column with the following:

John & Mary
Bill & Jenny
Bob

Is this possible? It is a list of 10,000 names and too hard to go through manually.

Thanks!

You're going to run into trouble with last names that contain a space. Van Helsing, for example.

But for the majority of names on your list, this is fairly simple.

Here are a couple of links to older threads about this very task. You will find multiple solutions in these links:

Thanks guys.....both very helpful and gives me just what I need!

Hi Guys,

I have an unusual request this time. Client wants this and I know it's dumb but this is what they need and I can't figure it out based on the info you have given me (not smart enough!).

They have the following as contacts in column A:

Belinda Jones & Grant Smith
Ken & Marie Johnson
Bart Simpson

They need this separated into a Contact 1 and Contact 2 so that it ends up like this:

Contact1 Contact 2
Belinda Jones & Grant Smith
Ken & Marie Johnson
Bart Simpson

This is a list of 10,000 names and I have no idea so if someone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
