I have a report tied to an Access DB. I have create a Crystal report and tied it to this DB and there are also a hand full of parameters to the report. When I run the report through viewer. I am NOT prompted to enter any of the paramters. Am I missing something? Does the viewer have the capability to work with paramters? Please advise!

Thanks

Are you using an access table or an Access query as your data source? Are the parameters in the Access query? Or in the Crystal report?

If it is in your crystal report you need to use the parameters in your report, usually in a record or group selection formula, in order to get prompter for them.

The DB is in Access. But all of my parameters are through Crystal. I am using CR to do all of the pulling of data. I have 6 parameters already setup through the selection. If I preview the report through the crystal developer I am prompted. But when I run the report throught the viewer I get no parameters and the data just shows up as if no parameters are present.

OK what viewer are you using and how are you invoking it?

I am using Crystal Report Viewer XI. The Crystal version that I am developing the reports in is also XI. I have tried both just double clicking on the .rpt and opening the viewer and then navigating to the .rpt file. I have the actual crystal software on another server were I do all of my developing currently. Would I have to have the Crystal XI on the same server? That doesn't make much sense but I heard stranger things in this world.

The only viewer I am aware of is the one you invoke from a VB or .NET application. What is the name of the executable you are running?

Do you know of a CR viewer that will accept parameters? I don't think that it is very efficient of the crystal developers to not have the viewer accept parameters. How else are you to suppose to run a report stand alone? Sorry for the little rant. Please let me know if there is anything else that I could do to have the report run as a stand-alone and be able to enter parameter values.

Thanks

Run it stand alone with the crystal designer, or thru a VB or .net app, or buy a 3rd party viewer. Datalink viewer by Millet Software is my favorite.

Hi,
The viewer you have is just to provide a way for non-crystal owners to see a report( and do some mods to it, if desired, for a different slice of the saved data) designed by others in CR Designer...dgillz's response covers your options..
