Hello,

I have a report developed in Crystal Reports XI. I just recently updated the drop down values for two parameter fields which originate in MS Access XP. When I placed this report in Crystal Enterprise 10 I see the two parameter fields but I cannot see any of the drop down values and if I try and type a value in manually it does not save as the parameter value. The parameters are text fields.

Hi,
In the CMC, what shows in the Parameter tab for that report..ARe the new default values there? Is the 'Prompt user' checked?

And are they dynamic parameters?

Post technical information, answer Turk's and my questions, and state the data types.

The new default values are not there.

The drop down for both fields are blank but when you hit the arrow for the drop down there are exactly 14 blank drop down values (which is the number of different values on the list).

When I select one of the values and "submit" the value comes through as double quotes (""). The parameter data types are strings.

The "prompt user" is not checked but I do not want the user to have that option.

They are not dynamic parameters.

Ahhh, sorry, I missed that you are using CE 10 and CR XI, that's probably the issue.

Crystal generally isn't backward compatible.

I converted the file to Crystal Reports 10 and I am still having the same issue. Are there any other possibilities?

Hi,
When you designed the report did you specify Static, and then insure that the default values list was populated?
Crystal does not use any of the default values unless the user is prompted for a value(s) - it then shows the list..
If you always want the same values used for the 'parameter', do not use a parametr; code them into your record selection formula ( or wherever you need those 'constant' values)

Yes

Sorry, I'm unfamiliar with using XI in CE10, perhaps applying a service pack is in order, or you have some custom code.

Hi,
I suspect that the code used by the XI designer to create/populate the parameter and its defaults is not compatible with CE10's system...

I know that CR10 designed reports ( as well as 8.5) can be published to a BOE XI system, but backward compatibility is always problematic..

I did use the import option from a text file. I am going to take the original file which is working and try replacing the drop down manually. I will get back to you to tell you if it works.

Thanks you both for your help.

Here was the problem. When I updated the drop-down list with new values I did not put any descriptions next to the values. There is an option to "Prompt by Description Only" which was set to yes.

Hi,
Sometimes we think of the most serious reasons for some failure, and forget to ask about one of the simplest..( I've been there, done that, and should have asked..)

I guess the old medical school maxim applies..
'When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras'

Glad you got it working..

Since that isn't the default setting, they had to check it, one wouldn't think of that solution.

btw, you can add descriptions in to the ext file as well and import them if you had intended to use descriptions.
