I have about 7 parameter fields in my report and I created them in the order I needed them, but now I want to rearrange the order they appear to the end user. How do I do that? The only way I figured out is if I delete all of them and then add them back in the order I want them to be, but I can't do that because I've written some heavy duty formulas and that would be too much work. I tried renaming them and even that doesn't work. It just looks wierd because the parameters are so out of order when they ask very orderly questions. For example, it should ask "what is your first name, what is your last name, what is your address?" But instead it jumps all over the place and puts them in this order that is going to drive everyone nuts because they will be pulling this info off of financial reports. I learned my lesson, but can anyone help me with fixing it this time?
TIA!!!!!!

Michelle,

In version 8.5, do the following:

Insert->Field Object->Parameter Fields.

Then select the parmamete field you want with a right click and select "Move parameter down/Up" as th case may be. When the parameters are in the order you want them to be in the insert field object window, you're done. The report will ask for the paramters in that order.

There are 'up' and 'down' arrows that allow you to change the order of parameter fields in the list of available
parameters (in the Field Explorer Dialog).

Thanks Guys-- I have version 8, but this report is for someone who has version 5 and 7. Any ideas? I know this has got to be an easy thing, but I'm stumped.

oops, I started a new thread. It's a friday!!

I wanted to thank you for your posts, but I am writing these for version 5 or 7. I have 8.5, but this office doesn't. Any ideas? Thanks.

Older versions order the parameters in the same order that they were added, and there is no ability to move them. To rearrange them you have to delete and re-add them. This is a pain, but there is a trick that makes it a bit easier.

1) Save the report under another name, close and open it.
2) Re-Open the original.
3) In the original , comment out all formulas that refer to the parameters. If they are on the canvas, delete them, and then delete all of the parameter fields from the field list.

4) Now in the copy, put all 7 parameter fields on the canvas, unless they are already there.
5) Copy and paste these parameters onto the orignal report canvas in the order that you want them to appear. If the parameter field was alreadly formatted on the canvas, use the formatted version. If the parameter isn't on the canvas, paste it on briefly, and immediately delete it. This will add the parameter back into the list of available fields.

6) Once they are all back, take the comments out of the formulas. Ken Hamady, On-site/Phone Crystal Reports Training/Consulting
