How do I set a paramater tap for a report which is grouped in specified order? I also want to sort within the ordered group, e.g. Group contains 10 instances of argon and 4 instances of helium, but they are not sorted,
argon
argon
helium
argon
helium.........

I don't understand the first part of the question, but you can sort within a group by using the menu option:

Thank u for part 2. I deleted my group, re-entered it and it works now.

First Part:
I wish to have two paramater tabs, one "date" the other "gas". The gas field is sorted in specified order.
When I enter the "browse table" element the report loses its specified order.

So you want the sample values to be in a specific order for the user? What version of CR? Ken Hamady

You can put values into the parameter in any order, and unless you tell it to sort the values in the parameter's "default values" window, it will list them for the user in the order that they are entered.

However, if you have created specified headings (ie created your own group names) using the specified order feature, your parameter wont work in the selection formula.

In this case you will have to create a field that converts the field values into the specified values and group on the formula. Then you can use the formula and the parameter in the selection formula.

BTW there are 2 versions of V7. I am using the latest. The difference is mainly in the parameters window. The later has a separate window for default values. The earlier has it all on one window. Ken Hamady

"SQL expression?". Yes, this is a question. Do I need to build an SQL expression, or is there another way round the problem?

You can either use a Crystal formula field, or an SQL expression as your group field.

Neither will allow you to browse sample values for the parameter, but you can enter the values manually into the parameter Ken Hamady
