Paragraph styles driving me nuts!

I can't figure out why SOME of my paragraph styles apply the color and character that was originally assigned to them when clicked, and some DON'T (ie. the existing color and character don't change, or new type comes in with different character and color than specified in the style), even tho both color and character ARE expressly specified in the Options dialog. I've done hours of reading and exploring, made sure all styles are based on "no style," tried holding down Option and Option/Shift, and I'm still stumped. The text is created by typing directly into the InDesign layout. Appreciate ANY insight... thanks!

Do you, perhaps, have character styles applied as well? They effectively override paragraph styles where the character style is applied.

Possibly; how would I tell? And do you mean to the entire graph, or just in a few places?

Could be the entire graph, could be in a few places, either way.

Just display the Character Styles palette with your errant text selected -- you'll see whether a style has been applied or not. Set your character style to No Style (or whatever the "no style" item is -- don't have ID open right now) and see if that does the trick.

As you can imagine, paragraph styles apply to entire paragraphs, while character styles apply only to selected characters.
