Problem - Paradox does not retain the working/private directories or user preferences after re-boot.
For months I have suffered this bug with absolutely no help from Corel Tech Support. They know of it, but their response is "The software developers are looking into it". (Yeah Right)
The culprit is a file called pdxregcl.exe (this file is added during X3 Office/Paradox installation. If I am the last to find this out, my appologies, but it may help other novices like me.
The solution:
Remove the registry entry from:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
1. Click on Start > run. Type Regedit in the Open box then click on Open
2. Click on File > Export
3. Change the ‘save to’ location to Desktop
4. Name the file regbackup
5. Click on Save.
6. Click on the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. If there is a + sign, click on the + so it changes to a minus (-)
7. Click on the folder SOFTWARE. If there is a + sign, click on the + so it changes to a minus (-)
8. Click on the folder Microsoft. If there is a + sign, click on the + so it changes to a minus (-)
9. Click on the folder Windows. If there is a + sign, click on the + so it changes to a minus (-)
10. Click on the folder CurrentVersion. If there is a + sign, click on the + so it changes to a minus (-)
11. Click on the folder Run. If there is a + sign, click on the + so it changes to a minus (-)
12. On the right side of the screen, right click on pdxregcl.exe and choose delete (confirm the deletion)
13. Close the registry editor
It worked for me!!
