When I convert a document with pantone colors to pdf the colors are converted to a pantone that is not recognized as the color I originally specified. For example, If I convert a document that has pantone 'reflex blue c', the end result becomes 'P2, #200c451c008c2500, PANTONE Reflex Blue C'. My printer will match spot colors of pantone but does not recognize this color. Is this due to my color profile in publisher and how can I fix this. Thanks for any help.

How are you creating the PDF ? Are you Exporting to PDF using tools in Publisher 2007 or 2010, or Printing to PDF with Acrobat Standard or Professional installed ? Or are you using some other process ?

I am exporting as pdf through adobe pdf on the publisher menu. I have tried using many different conversion setting and have even created some of my own but still not getting the pantone tag I want.

flbob - Does your printer produce the exact color when you print the directly from Publisher ? Are you creating the image containing the color inside Publisher, are you importing it from another program (if so, what file format - TIFF, JPEG, or ??), or are you scanning it ?
If there others reading this thread with direct experience in color matching challenges, please jump in - I work in Publisher, and in Acrobat Pro, but color matching has not been a requirement for the work I do.

I mostly work from Quark, convert to pdf and print to a Xerox Docucolor 252. If the color is labeled correctly as is when I convert from quark I get a specific color from my printer. This specific color, ie pantone 185, I can adjust individually to match what I want. But if the printer does not recognize the color it will only print a 4 color representation of that color which I am then unable t tweak to what I want. I have files that were created in publisher that I would like to output as the pantone color profile. I think it has something to do with the color prifiles within publisher but I have been unable to figure how to adjust the profile settings if at all possible.

flbob - you're in an area beyond my experience in Publisher. You might consider a product which is more on the 'professional' publishing level, like PageMaker, which support more demanding specs for the images. There's a Pagemaker forum here on Tek-tips, suggest you inquire there if if would be a better fit for your color matching application.
