Hi there,

I have just installed a new NCP500 system (latest software version) and there is an audio problem with the DECT handsets. Internal call volume (extension to extension) is too loud and you can hear your own voice in the earpiece. DECT colume levels however are fine in external calls either on analogue or PRI trunks.

Panasonic suggested the *PCCKXTDA* login on the unified maintenance console (which allows more options) and suggested to select "card combination adjust" where you can reduce the gain on the DLC16 card. This makes no difference at all. Equally, if you try to alter any of the gain settings on the DLC16 card in the normal audio gain section, this also makes no difference. As the three cell stations are all connected to the DLC16 card, I would expect this to control the internal call volume. I should add that we had to clear an echo problem on the analogue trunks via the LCOT4 card and this was successful.

I should add that this system has 38 PS handsets and only one wired desktop phone. It was an upgrade for a KXTD1232 which could not support the latest DECT handets. THey had no audio issues on the old system. My guess is that the audio levels for the DECT handsets are set elsewhere in programming but I have no idea where.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

are you using the old dect phones that were on the 1232?

I think the dect internal calls are setup on the system but only go through the cell station for internal calls.(like the ip phones)
if you change the volume settings on the dlc, does it affect the external line volume. I see the analogue line settings did for the line, but what about on the dlc card.

I could not see any gains referencing the dech handsets.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. The DECT handsets are a mixture of older KXCTCA 256 and brand new KXTCA275 models. When I was testing on site, I used one of each to check if any of the adjustments was working. I have spoken to both Nimans tech support (the distributor we buy from in the UK) and also Panasonic in Bracknell. The worrying thing is neither of them seem certain about any solution and as you mentioned, if the DECT units work "peer to peer" as in the case of the IP model, it may be impossible to lower the volume. Altering the earpiece setting on the DECT handset solves the internal volume issue but then external calls are too quiet!

Panasonic have suggested that we attend site, log in via the *PCC code and go to a utilities section which allows "qwerty" commands to be sent to the system. They are saying they may be able to advise on adjusting the audio via equipment numbers rather than cards but whether this means ports or not I don't know. There must be an adjustment somewhere as I'm sure other NCP users with DECT handsets must have experienced the same problem.

Sorry,

I failed to answer your query re the external line volume when adjusting the card. Although I didn't check myself, I would assume not as I left the extension settings on that card at -6dB and I'm sure it would have been mentioned by now if there were any issues. Just to make sure, we set the card to -15dB for a short while to see if the adjustment was very subtle..this made no difference at all!

what if you lower the h/s volume and up the volume from co to extension so it balances out the differences
