Panasonic KX-TGP600 and A406 Repeater

I recently installed a Panasonic KX-TGP600. The phones are working fine with the base. But then I acquired an A406 Repeater. I can't seem to get the repeater to register with the base. The repeater just flashes red. I have followed the process in the A406 manual. The instructions are basically repeated here:

Does anyone have any ideas of what to do next?

solid

Disconnect

Release

button

Unit
is
ready
for
automatic

Yes, I've tried fully resetting the 406. I tried it again following your instructions. During the reset, the indicator goes solid red. I power cycle and the indicator just goes to its usual blinking red. I am right next to the base.

I just remembered that the instructions say to put the base into extender mode using one of the handsets. I did not do that. All I did was put the base in pairing mode which I now think is wrong.
