Hi, I'm an IT Manager and one of our clients wants us to figure out how to make their fax line rollover to the handsets. Currently when a call comes in if the first 3 lines are busy it rings the actual fax machine. Line 4 is the fax and we can make calls out from line 4 on the handsets, but if someone calls in and it goes to line 4, none of the handsets can pick it up.

Is this a wiring issue or something that is programmed in the Maintenance console?

I've been reading the manual and seems like it would have something to do with DID and ICG.

I guess the question is when a call comes into line 4, where do I set what ICG it should goto, but also still allow them to be able to send/receive faxes with that line?

In Panasonic phone systems, there is a FAX tone detect settings.
Incoming calls on the line upon detecting FAX tones, would be directed to the Extension connection on the FAX machine. Atleast for the installations i used to do with FAX that's what i remember.

I am more into Asterisk based solutions now but look at the programming Manual of your equipment and it should be somewhere.

You have told us your PBX model though.

I think its a KX-TDA and not a KX-TVA -> Please confirm

there is a fax tone detect but only if the line is answered by the disa card first, you could have that on one line if you wanted. other than that, if most calls are for people and not faxes, you could change it to ring the phones and if it is a fax, transfer it to the fax machine extension

Yes its TDA.

I'd actually rather not have to get into connecting a PC and doing it through the console.

If it can be done through the PT that would be great.

Some more info, if I plug one of the PT into the fax line it does not power it. Does that mean its set as an analog line?

I guess the problem is I don't know what extension it transfers to when a call comes in on that 4th line, is there a way to figure this out without connecting a computer and find out the fax line extension. So hopefully I can just tell it through using the PT to forward to the ICG instead of the fax extension and then they just transfer it to the fax extension when a fax comes in. This is the PT manual:
Could point me in the right direction using that? I know that I will only be able to do this if they allowed admin access through a PT, it seems like the phone guys who set it up pretty much left everything as defaults, would that be a default if they didn't change it?

It all came about as their voicemail was hacked because there was not even pins to access voicemail, so they were just allowed to make calls out via voicemail.

So last question how would I stop callers outside the business making these calls using the PT? They only ever make calls out to clients from the phones in the office, no forwarding to cell phones or anything like that its a pretty basic setup.

Over here if you have a tva in the mix the tva will do a fax transfer to a analog extension!!

Also if it's a voice call you could non, cng tone to ring to main ICG Group, are you in USA?

You really will need UPC and Voicemail software running on a PC

OBT is spot on if you get a fax tone if you know the ext that has fax connected to, you can blind transfer call to it from anywhere....i have also see fax line being connected to 4th Co line DIRECTLY.. and wiring the Ext Jack on fax machine to line 04 input to the TDA (the fax machine should be in Fax/TAD mode) when fax has voice call it will rind thru to pbx.. (warning you may not get caller ID info from voice calls that have rolled over to fax line

So I thought it was the TDA, its actually the TVA50, also don't know if it matters but KX-NS700 looks to be part of the phone system also. Is it normal that even though we have four trunk lines coming in from AT&T that there is only a single line connected to the TVA50?

I took off the cable cover on the TVA50 and see there is a shutdown button. We want to make sure before we do anything that there is a good backup. Can we just hit shutdown, make a copy of the SD Card and then boot it back up?

Is it possible to open those files from the SD Card and look at the settings in the Maintenance Console software?

And we certainly don't want to loose Caller-ID info when it rolls over to line 4. Will have to find out if its acceptable for them to be required to transfer it to the fax line if they need a fax to come in.

yes one ns digital ext = two voicemail ports on tva50

tva 50 does not hav sd card ,you need factory software for admin or backups of either units
