I have an opportunity to buy a Palm Vx at very good price (for Australian prices, that is :)).

I really have no need for most of the 'organization' functions of a PDa (To Do list, phone and address list, scheduler, etc). But if there were some way I could use it as a backup for my trusty Sharp PC 1401 'pocket computer' - which can be programmed in a fairly good Basic, then the Vx might be worth buying. (I am assuming that my Sharp PC 1401 will give up before I do).

Is there any way I could program the Vx in Basic, or is there anyway I could load (and run) DOS executable programs onto it.

All comments (however depressing) will be gratefully accepted.

Hi, Alphaguy,

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately my window of opportunity for the el cheapo Palm Vx closed very quickly (the small supply had sold out before I got to the store :-().

Instead I have just bought a Sharp PC E500S pocket computer, which will really fit my requirements much better (I had been looking for a good backup to replace an OLD Sharp PC 1401 (born 1983, still working well and doing all of my non-programmed calculations plus a few small purpose written programs for structural engineering detailed work, but must surely be due for its pension soon). When I had last enquired, Sharp had stopped producing anything similar (QWERTY keyboard plus full scientific calculator plus programmable in Basic - the combination suits me very well indeed); apparently they have been producing the E500S for a fairly short time.

I was about to red-flag my own post since my vague plan to buy a Palm had vanished. However, your reply may help others in the future, so the thread should stay on record.
