Since the recorder also works on the desktop app., is it possible it's conflicted?
If they are suggesting a restore, you may want to start from scratch. Do a Hot sync.. and then reinstall your software. You may want to completely remove the old software(should).
It doesn't sound like they think it's a hardware problem.
