I've been using Adobe Illustrator 9 for about 6 weeks and am starting to get a handle on it.

One issue I've not been able to solve: When I'm using the paintbrush tool, let's say that I want a stroke of 3 pts, so I set the Stroke window for that. Then, when I go to draw a line using the tool, the stroke width reverts to 1 pt. So each time I draw a line I have to reset the stroke width. How do I keep the stroke width at the setting I want instead of having it switch back to 1 pt? (This problem doesn't occur with, for example, the pen tool.)

Thanks.

Wow, that is a problem. I cant seem to find the answer either. Adobe needs to address this.

Draw a line with the Pen Tool.

Click on that little arrow in the upper right corner of the Brushes palette.

Select New Brush.

Double click on the new brush you just created.

Set the Diameter to whatever size you.

Create your own library such as MyLines and save it out to there. Anytime you create a new brush that you want to keep, save to your library.

Then when you want to use it go to Windows>Brush Libraries>Other and find the library you just created.

Using the Brushes palette can save a lot of time on a variety of problems.

Here's a suggestion for creating a brush: if you want to create text on a curve but you want the letters to stay together, make the letters a brush.
