Has anyone hooked up an IP Office 500 to a Valcom-2001-A without using any interface device?

Yup, I am sure everyone has.
Are you trying to do this over a trunk port or an analog extension port?

You are going to need something to interface the paging amp.

No with out using a interface, just going straight from the IPOffice to the Amp

You are going to need some sort of an interface.

If its on an extension port, you need to showw 600 ohm on the line, to simulate a phone. This can be done with a Bogen WMT1-a. Once connected, reboot the system.

If you are using a trunk port, you need to have loop voltage on teh line or the IPO will not let the page code go out on the trunk. In this case use a UPAM.

But, no matter what way you do it, the amp can not provide loop current or the 600ohm, so you need an interface. I think I have heard of guys using the OPT port on the back..but never seen it.

if you however have a "real" paging amp with a T/R input then just connect it to the extension port, reboot and you are fine. Reboot is necessary so that the paging actually initializes the port as a paging port.

Westi, are you sure. Amps are dry contacts...I dindt think they would put the resistance on the line...I will have to try....

you can also just use a $0.20 470 - 650 ohm resistor (they dont make a 600) inline from radio shack. this works great to open the paging port. Works every time.

Will Avaya support your resistor?

It's people like you who generalize.

I am sure if you are using an analog extension port for the paging as the port will provide you with the power needed to do the modulation. If you use a line port you would need to get a power supply in line to provide it.

Ya know what Westi. I think I recall that doc.

Use system monitor unless of course you are a Tard then it IS the fault of the pbx.

It works just fine I have a valcom 2003a and I took a analog ext straight to it told the ext. it was a paging horn and all works just fine.
