I have a new computer that doesn't want to install a permanent paging file. I can go to the system icon and type in the paging file as recommended, but it still has "0" as the paging file. When I turn on the computer, it sets up a temporary paging file but when I look at the actual file it reads "0". My ram is 512 so my paging file should be 768. I also reade that I could use the number 1024. I have tried both. Can someone help! I think that because I have a hard time with the paging file, the boot up at start is very slow and sometimes I have to Control, Alt Delete to get it started.

Have you tried setting your paging file from Safe Mode?

Yes I have tried this in safe mode and it doesn't change. My paging file still "0" and windows sets up a temp paging file.

Right click on your c: drive, and go to permissions, or security, add the everyone
group to the c: drive, see if that fixes it.

Since you have 512 mb ram, your system would not be using that much if any at all of the paging file. It would not have to use a swap file.
It will only use the paging file IF it runs low or out of RAM.
Try changing the setting in the same location to background processes instead of applications and see if this makes any difference.

Have you checked your permissions on the drive that you are trying to set your page file. Ensure that permissions are set to everyone.

I say this, as this is a problem that i have found with Windows 2000.

Hope this helps.
