I am trying to setup an operator to receive a page when a scheduled job fails. I go to the Notification tab on the Job Properties window and select Page Operator, i added my pager number. After the job fails I never receive a page. I do receive the email, there is a pager tab in my outlook email account setup, should i add my pager number there?

You can't use a page number, you have to give it an email address. SQL doesn't know what to do with a pager number.

The Microsoft folks assumed that everyone had text pages or at least pagers with email addresses. The field label is a little misleading.

thanks for your reply, my phone receives text messages via email, i have cingular so i put: phonenumber@txt.att.net in pager email name in alerts and i test it and i don't get anything, am i missing anything?

Make sure that you have the hours to page you setup correctly. If the SQL Server doesn't show you as on duty it will not page you.

yes i checked. should i add my pager email into the sql server alert or it has to be added in my outlook profile under pager?

You have to add it to the alert and to the operator screens within SQL Server. SQL uses Outlook to send email only. It's doesn't do lookups within the Outlook address list.
