Hi,

We are working in a school environment, and as usual I'm the one who has to figure out this confusing phone system. :D

I was asked to find a way to page automatically at certain times throughout the day to signal the end of school periods.

I'm not sure of what phone system I'm running. I know we use Norstar ICS Programming Tools v9.0.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Do you need to page through the phone speakers, or do you have an external paging system? It's not too hard through an external paging system--just use a Viking CTG-1.

But if you need to page through the phone speakers, it's difficult, but not quite impossible. There is no standard hardware I know of to do this. The trouble is you have to dial the "page" feature code, which _cannot_ be programmed as a hotline, etc. So you need a device external from the phone system that can dial that code, make a sound, than hang up, all at the appointed times.

I've done it very successfully (at a Catholic school) by hacking an older Nortel phone (soldering iron and magnifying glass). It could also be done via an analog port, but that's harder than it should be because the page code (on an analog port) is "flash" 630. So the external device has to be able to flash the switchhook, then dial touch tone digits, etc.

I have done this by putting the tone input to the music on hold port and turn on back ground music to all phones. This wasy they can have the signal at any phone. You would not be able to use MOH though.

My suggestion would be a combo of both the above answers but to save a bunch of headaches get one of the Viking clock/tone generators then either the external PA or BGM could be used (MOH is definately screwed though)
