I've been handed a CD which has been thru the wringer. It looks like Mac data (without extensions) but our Mac doesn't have a clue. Apparently any associations are stripped.

The folders the files are in are 'PMaker' and the dates on the files are from late 1994, early 1995.

What version would that make the files? I've guessed at .pm4, .pm5, .pm5, .pm6, and .p65 (our only version).

We want to open these files- even if it means stripping all but the raw text. Notepad looks like the only option.

Once the version is square, how do I convert it to PC? I have not found a converter with 6.5.

Thanks- this project has been.... fun?

Try downloading the free cross-platform PageMaker file converter from Adobe.com (it may help a little in figuring out what you have)

You may also want to find a freeware hex/binary file viewer. While you probably won't be able to view what version a Pagemaker file is, you could confirm it is a Pagemaker file in binary/hex view (it will say 'PageMaker' in the first dozen lines). I like to use xnview (from xnview.com) to view suspect files in hex mode to see their original creator.

Here is the cross platform converter for windows from adobe. It will let you convert Mac 5.0 and 6.0 to PC 6.0 which then can be opened wint PC 6.5 or 7.0.

If you have Mac 6.5 doc.. just add .p65 tot he file name and open in Windows PM, no conversion required.

Hope this helps. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Thanks for the link- looks like it's working.

Now I look like a genius! Thanks!
