Does anyone have ideas as to why we would not be able to print our catalogs with this specific printer? We have been using a Sharp AR-C160 for the past couple of years and everything has worked fine! We are in the process of testing the "big brother" to the AR-C160 which is the AR-C330, supposedly this printer will do everything the 160 will and more! HA! We cant even get this printer to print .pmd files through pagemaker. When trying to print .pmd files through pagemaker, the printer just locks up and we have to shut it down, then we have to reset the print controller on the back of the printer. With the 160 model we could print .pmd files along with anything else that was printable. So, the only way for us to print our catalogs is to run distiller and turn them into PDF files which isnt hard, but is something that shouldnt have to be done with a printer that is worth more than a lot of cars available today! Also, once we have converted our .pmd files in PDF's, we can only print one(1) file at a time. Anytime I try to print multiple copies, the printer locks up and we have to shut it down and reset the print controller. I was thinking its just the printer is a piece of garbage, but if it was junk then it would print any of our other Crystal reports or anything else right? If anyone has any suggestions of any kind, please post them! I have honestly exhausted myself trying to figure this problem out. Also, if your answer is ask the salesperson about the problem, i have done that several times and all they do is try to play off a "DPI" excuse. No matter how many times I change the file its always something to do with the resolution and thats why its not printing right. SO THEY ARE NO HELP! Again, please post any ideas you may have! Thanks for your input!

Hi, largemoe

Mac or Win?
Which version of PM?
Is the AR-C330 a postscript printer?
Have you recomposed all the files to the new printer?

And if it is a postscript printer, have you installed the PPD in the correct PM folder?

Thanks for your reply!

Windows Version - Windows XP
PM Version - PageMaker 7.0

The AR-C330 has PCL and PS drivers, the people who print regular reports and single pages use the PCL driver and the people here who print the CAD drawings and the people who print the catalog use the PS drivers.

And finally, yes all of the files have been recomposed several different times to the new printer.

to eggles - when we recieved the driver disk from the Sharp Reps., there was no PPD files on the CD anywhere. I installed the drivers off of the cd and then I went to the sharp website and downloaded the driver package just to find out it was the same thing that was on the CD. So I guess my answer is there are no PPD files for this specific printer(?). That wouldnt really make any sense however since there are PPD files for the AR-C160 and when we tried out the AR-C260 there were PPD files for that printer as well.

Thanks for your replies, any further help is appreciated!

Eggles,

I installed the PPD file. There was an English version of the file and a European version as well so I just went ahead and installed both of them just to make sure. The catalog still does not print at all from PageMaker. Do you think it could have anything to do with printer RAM. I know this certain printer has memory you can add and take out as needed. Thanks!

>>I installed the PPD file<<

Yes - but where? In what folder? You will need to put a copy of the PPD in the following subfolder of PM C:\Program Files\Adobe\PageMaker 7.0\RSRC\UKENGLSH\ppd4.
