I have created a two color graphic in Photoshop that I imported into Pagemaker. I used 1 spot color and black when I created it. I want the spot color to separate when I print separations in Pagemaker. It will not do this. Can anyone help. I am very, very frustrated and would welcome any and all suggestions.<br>Thanks!<br>Michelle Johnson

One way that you can do this perhaps is by saving your file in photoshop as a Photoshop DCS file (it's a version of EPS) this makes sure that when you take it over to your page layout program that it will separate the way that it is supposed to. Also make sure that the black is a pantone as well.
Hope that helps...

One thing that you have to make sure of is the color settings in the print dialog. There is a radio button to print composite or separation. Also check to make sure your spot color is showing in the color list.

Hi Michelle,
You have a VERY interesting question to me. I have worked with this situation also. I would appreciate anything you may have learned regarding this. When I was working on trying to do color seperations with pantone colors (other than CMYK) using photoshop and pagemaker, I was told I should make the colors CMYK colors, just so pagemaker would do the seperations correctly. It wont look right on the screen, but when you actually print them in the correct colors, they will look right again.
Again, let me know if you find other ways to do this seperation. As I said, I am VERY interested in this problem. Also, I have some other ideas on this I am pursueing. Good luck, David Kimbley -- Graphic Artist.

ArtDirector,

Go to the Color palette and double click on the spot color you want to separate (let's just say red for the sake of clarification). A dialog box will appear. In the left side of the box click the box for Overprint. Then click OK.

When you print, go to the color button of the print dialog box. Click on the Separations button. Make sure there is a check mark for the color you want to print separately. When you print, you will get two pages. A black plate for the base and a red plate.

If red is not the color you want, you can create a new color from the popup arrow of the color palette. There are several libraries available to you.

Hope this helps.

Daniel
