We are moving our final Mac's to PC's. Not having used PM for Windows, is there anyone who can prepare me for any changes between the versions. I have software that will allow our PC's to open and read Mac removable media, will PM for windows be able to access these files that were created in PM for Mac?

Thanks,
Rob

As long as you are moving between the same versions, you should have no problem. If you are moving to a higher or lower version on different platforms, you may encounter problems. They will vary depending on which platform and what versions.

You will probably run into font problems as Mac and PC have different names for similar fonts. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

I will be attempting to move from 6.51 Mac to 7.0 PC. I have searched to see if I can still buy a 6.5 for Windows with no success. Any idea on what kind of problems that I should expect?

Thanks,
Rob

I still have PM6.52 on PC, being reluctant to upgrade to 7.0. However, 7.0 is effectively the same as 6.5, with only a few new bells and whistles added. I suppose it cannot hurt to try. I think they should just open with no problem.

The main issues will involve linked images since Mac uses different naming conventions... ie. no extensions on filenames... and on the fonts as mac uses similar fonts with different names. That is just nuisance stuff that is easy to clean up as long as you have the image files on your PC and similar fonts installed.

You will probably see reflow of text, so be sure to proofread the documents.

If worse comes to worse, you may find a legal copy of 6.5 on half.com. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Usually when going to from a PC to MAC in the same major version, there will be no problems, except for font issues.

When you convert from Mac to PC though, you need to run the Cross-Platform converter on the publication. You can download this file from -

I needed to convert Pagemaker files, are there converters from mac to pc & vice versa? are there Quark to pagemaker converters and vice versa? I will need these conversions both ways PC to mac, Mac to Pc... anyone know about this?

thank you!

You can open any Mac PM file with a PC and vice versa, as long as they are of the same version. If you have major version differences, then it gets tricky. You can convert a PC Quark file with the Quark converter on PC.. and I think same on Mac.. but AFAIK you cannot open a Mac Quark file on PC PM... at least I have never had luck with it.

If you are opening a PC PM file in Mac.. make sure there is no extension on file and it should convert. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
