pagemaker 6.5 vs. pagemaker 6.5plus

I'm looking to upgrade from my old standby pagemaker 5.0 on my DOS machine. In looking about for a full set of 6.5, I keep running across 6.5 plus. What is it? Is it a stand-alone, or an add-on?
Anybody know the best place to look for an economical, but legal pagemaker 6.5?

The release of Pagemaker 6.5 Plus in May 1999 was Adobe’s attempt to refocus PageMaker on to the corporate market (where it was competing with MS Publisher), while they were developing InDesign for the professional end of the market (where it was competing with Quark Xpress). Quoting from a press release at the time:

PageMaker 6.5 Plus has been enhanced with new features that make it easier for business publishers to tap into its professional power. Enhancements include:
• Photoshop 5.0 LE, a limited edition of the world standard photo design and production tool, makes it easy to incorporate and edit photographs.
• Acrobat Distiller V4, allowing creation of PDFs
• Adobe Type Manager, for managing fonts (140 Type 1 fonts included).
• Over 4,700 professionally-designed stock illustrations in Adobe Illustrator(R) format, hundreds of design templates and 300 high-resolution, CMYK images.
• Picture Palette (Windows only) offers easy browsing, viewing, searching and cataloging PageMaker 6.5 Plus image and template files.
• A Windows plug-in that creates a familiar, icon-based toolbar with shortcuts to commonly used PageMaker features makes it easy for Microsoft Office users to be immediately productive.
• A Microsoft® Publisher 97 and 98 file converter (Windows only) for Microsoft Publisher users migrating to PageMaker makes it easy to use of previously created materials.

I have no idea where you could buy a copy of PM 6.5+. Guess that depends a bit on where you are located.

For less than MSRP software, ebay is your best gamble - - but it is still a gamble. Current retail versions of PM are for version 7.0. You should be able to upgrade from a retail outlet like adobe.com fairly easily.

Maybe I'm just dense, but I still don't understand whether or not the 6.5 plus is a stand-alone version of pagemaker, or if I would have to have the plain 6.5 to start with.

6.5 plus is essentially the same as 6.5 - you just get a few extras. The extras are insignificant. Adobe did not even try to market the plus upgrade to plain 6.5 users when 'plus' was released. I believe they created a 'plus' version while they were slow to market the first release of InDesign. As a software vendor, you need to push sales. Since they didn't really have a new release, they called it 'plus'.

If you are a registered user of PM, you can upgrade straight to PM7.0.1 for £59 or €95 or the equvialent in your local beans (+ taxes and delivery).

It will run on Win98SE or later.

IMHO, you not going to find PM6.52 nearly as easily.
