Pagefile.sys problem wont let me log on

I have a Win 2k machine which will boot up to the logon screen then when i enter the password and press enter it starts to load but after 3-4 secs it displays the saving settings screen and puts me back to the logon screen.

I had a second hard disk in the box and changed the pagefile settings and took it out and this is when the problem started.

So you removed the second hd w/o changing the pagefile back to the hd you have in currently? Try this link

I know you haven't changed your boot partition, but windows is still looking for the pagfile on the missing drive. If possible, put the old drive back in, then change the pagefile before removing the drive. Also you could try booting into safe mode and change the pagefile there.

Thanks, I tried booting in safe mode but the same happened. So i used Norten Ghost and copied the whole disk to another spare one and put the copied disk in as a single disk and it worked first time.

Weird but true
