I'm getting this error all of a sudden, and it's beating me.

My system is a Dell T5400 with Dual quad core Xeon 2.5GHz CPUs, running XP PRo x64, with updates up to date.
It's primarily used for image editing. In fact almost solely so.

The system has been working perfectly since I got it, and I have not installed new hardware recently.
The last time it was working, I did install some plugins to Photoshop CS4 (32 bit version as plugins not 64 bit), but I have already installed the same plugins on Photoshop CS3 on this machine with no issues.
The last thing I did when it was last working was install the latest Google Earth, which ran OK.
PC was working fine.
Next day first boot got me the BSOD with message in title.

I cannot boot into any windows mode, even safe mode.

Googling the BSOD comes up with hardware or possible installed software as the cause.

All the fixes I have found have mentioned unplugging RAM modules and drives etc, all of which I have done.
The remaining fix is an XP repair from the CD.
Except when I run this it too goes into the same BSOD.

Only difference between mine and ones I found on internet is mine does not seem to save a file pertaining to the error.

One thing I've not seen mentioned in conjunction with this error is the fact that prior to the BSOD the safe mode boot hangs at loading "acpitabl.dat"

Googling that does come up with a lot of issues, but mostly Server 2003 and no actual remedies I can see.

I would really appreciate some help on this one if anyone can help.

The only thing I can think of I haven't tried yet is trying to boot from a UBCD4Win disk, which I will try next.

Try the UBCD4Win or UBCD, and run some memory tests. Also, you say you tried reseating the RAM. Did you try removing all but one module... and then with a different one, and so on, to see if possibly your RAM is bad? It could be that it's just started going bad.

I forgot to say I have run memtest86+ v4.0 which reported 100% fine on first full test.
I have 4 sticks, I've tried each pair alone in turn, but not one sole stick yet.

Those Server 2003 hits may be more relevant than you think. Windows XP x64 edition is based on the Windows 2003 x64 SP1 codebase. Server has a few more features and a slightly different interface, but it's essentially the same, moreso than the 32-bit versions of XP and Server 2003.

I would make sure that all USB devices are removed from the problem child...

you may have been hit by malware, which can cause these issues also...

UBCD4win should have an AntiViral scanner...

if not you could try Dr. Web LiveCD or Avira Rescue System...

Avira AntiVir Rescue System

Dr.Web LiveCD

Thanks guys. It's looking like UBCD4win is my main hope.

Been reading millions of posts on it and every one is counting on fixing things by getting safe mode booted, which I can't.

I am gonna try a different graphics card incase it's gone down.

Well I got the PC up and running from the UBCD4WIn CD no probs with all the original hardware present (though of course it only sees 4 of the 8 gig of RAM. My swapping tests were done with only 2 sticks at a time. Sticks are all 2GB)

I'm running some AV scans just in case, but I don't see any pagefile.sys on C:

That doesn't seem right to me, or is X64 different?

Steve (Delphi 2007 & XP)

No, it still has a pagefile, unless you have disabled it.

Are you sure it isn't on a separate partition? You can customize what partition your swap file/virtual memory is located on.

I certainly haven't set a seperate place for the pagefile.

Anyway, I ran some scans, had a look about, scratched my head a bit, then tried a restart, selecting safemode with networking.
It started.
So tried windows normal.
Worked.
And been working since.

Beats me!
