What is the standard page width to avoid horizontal scrolling? I have always used 750, which was fine for my 17" view, but now my pages have horizontal scrolling. Does anyone know what may have caused this?
I keep making the pages narrower, which works for a while, but then the horizontal scroll comes back.

what are you building your pages with?
If you are using dreamwaever and using percentage tables, then it's quite likely it's auto inserting spacer images- which expand as you add content. If this is the case you need to go into Edit > preferences > Layout view and uncheck auto insert spacers when making autostrech tables.
The other solution maybe that your screen resolution may not be set to 800x600, or the tables you are using are not set to fit in the 760 x 420 space that is viewable on an 800x 600 resolution browser.

Sometimes, when my code just won't behave, I take it outside and make it listen to britney spears music, and when it comes back it's really well behaved. I wonder if it's suffering from post tramatic stress syndrome now..

Doublecheck to be sure your table columns add up to 750 or less, and that there are no graphics on your page that extend beyond that (including background images). Although you can define your table width, it cannot wrap images, and if your tds add up to more than your table width it wont stop it at the table width.

Thank you for the replies to my question. I apologize for not responding sooner. The pages I was having trouble with are created with yahoo geocities. for some reason, for a few days, the pop-up ads weren't showing up on my pages (which didn't bother me a bit!). My pages were allowing the space for the ads, which made my pages a little wide. I didn't figure it out until the pop-up ads returned. Thanks again for the help! :)
