Page numbering in word

Hi > I have prepared a lengthy document in MS Word and would like to insert roman numero page numbers in the first part of the doc and then the rest of the doc in normal numbers, would like to find out how, Thx

Hi Nick,

1. Insert a 'Next page' Section break at the end of the last page to have roman numerals.
2. Access the header/footer for the the page following the Section break and unlink whichever of the header/footer you're using for the page numbers from the previous Section's header/footer.
3. Insert the page # field for the current Section into the header/footer. The default format should be fine, though you might want to start the numbering from 1.
4. Go to the previous page's header/footer and insert the page # field for that Section, formatting it as roman numerals.

Thank You Paul,
But now, what happens is that where you enter the section break, a blank page is inserted and I cant move the text up unless I cut and paste it. If I do cut and paste, then that page wont show number 1, but the following pages will continue as normal, 2, 3, etc.... .

Hi,
Two things to remember:
..If you have them, delete page breaks where you've entered section breaks.
..Click to deselect the Link to Previous button on the HF ribbon in the section where you want the different page numbering.
