hello one and all,

Bit of a problem: I'm trying to compile a 130 page magazine. I am receiving indesign files from various sources, aswell as pdf's, print ready. I'm am a bit confused as how to number all of the pages and eventually make one pdf, ready for the printers. I cannot group all of the seperate indesign files together as one indesign file because the size is ridiculous and my computer would never handle it anyway. I'm aware that I can make a multi page pdf in adobe acrobat, but is there any way to place a numbering system on the pages without having to manually place it bit by bit in each seperate indesign file, then rendering each pdf with the page number on.

Any help would be greatly apprecitaed !

Thankyou kindly

If it were me, I's consider placing the pdf's in an Indesign file. If you go to Adobe Exchange, and then go to Indesign, you'll be able to find a plugin for placing multipage pdfs.

Save as many Indisign docs as necessary.

After you get everything arranged you can create a book from the multiple ID files. When you create a book, you can select various page numbering options. If you're not familiar with the book feature go to Help and read up on it, including page numbering.

Pnce the book is ready, you can create a Press quality pdf from that.

I didn't see mention of what version of InDesign you're running...CS2 doesn't need a plug-in to place multiple PDFs.

I would place the PDFs as needed and take the files that are already in InDesign, then do a jmgalvin suggested: make a book from the separate files and use the auto page numbering feature to number across all documents in that book.

Good luck!

thanks alot guys, much appreciated.

I tried out what you suggested and it works fine. Just out of curiosity - if i had exported all seperate indesign files as single page pdf's and arranged them all in adobe acrobat, would i be able to type in a page numbering system in acrobat? I say this because I'm fairly confident that my computer would never handle rendering one large multiple pdf from indesign.

Thanks again

Grant

Pages in a pdf can have page numbers inserted by using the header/footer (document menu)feature in Acrobat Pro.

It's pretty straightforward as long as you have space on the page for the header or footer.
