I am new at PageMaker, have V. 6.5. Page numbering failed on the publication I was working on - followed the instructions, and instead of a page number marker I got either a 2-character string of open box characters or a triangle [NW corner of a square, black]. This happened on two computers, and on a publication page or a master page. However, page numbering on other publications worked fine, on either computer and on publication pages or master pages. Solved my problem of numbering the suspect publication by cutting and pasting page number markers from master pages of a second publication onto the master pages of the suspect publication but I still would like to know what, in a publication, could cause such behavior. Using NT4.0 SP4.0 or SP6.0, all publication pages created by pasting WordPerfect documents [Corel Suite 8].

The page number placeholder on masterpages is one of these codes,
depending on the PM version or language version:
Ctrl+Shift+3 or Ctrl+Alt+P
--Gernot Hoffmann

Ctrl+Alt+P - and that is what gives the page number placeholder on other publications - but not on the publication that I described. There is something different about this particular publication.
